ROM-Only Couples: A 90-Day Planning Timeline
On this page

A ROM-only wedding does not need twelve months of planning. Ninety days is comfortable. Sixty is achievable. Thirty is possible if the couple is decisive and the date is flexible. This piece is a 90-day timeline for couples who have already decided to skip the banquet and want the planning to be as quiet as the day itself.

If you are still weighing whether a ROM-only wedding is right for you, our earlier piece on the quietly beautiful ROM covers the why. This is the how.

Day 90 to 75: the foundations

The first fortnight is the most important and the easiest to underestimate.

  • Apply for ROM. Open the application on the ROM website. The licensed solemniser slots fill up faster than the venue, especially for Saturday afternoons. Pick your top three dates and submit.
  • Choose the ceremony shape. ROM at the registry, or a licensed solemniser at an external venue. The external option opens up a wider range of locations but adds a small layer of coordination.
  • Decide on the lunch shape. A restaurant private dining room for fifteen to forty guests is the standard. Pick whether you want a sit-down, a sharing menu, or something more casual.
  • Lock the guest list. ROM-only weddings work best with thirty or fewer guests. Decide early and resist the slow expansion that always happens.
  • Tell your families. If your families were expecting a larger event, this is the conversation to have now, not later.

Day 75 to 60: the bookings

By day 60, the major pieces should be in place.

  • Book the lunch venue. A private room at a restaurant you love. Two months out is comfortable for most restaurants in Singapore for a small private booking.
  • Book the photographer. Three to four hours of coverage. Some photographers offer a smaller ROM package. Ask. Friends who shoot well are a real option for ROM-only days.
  • Book the wedding car. Even an intimate day needs a calm chauffeured ride between home, the ceremony, and lunch. The 4-hour package was designed for exactly this shape of wedding.
  • Choose attire. A bridal gown rental, a tailored suit, or simply a beautiful dress and a clean jacket. ROM-only weddings reward restraint.
  • Confirm the witnesses. Two adults over 21. Usually parents or closest friends. Ask now, formally.

Day 60 to 45: the details

The midpoint of the timeline. Small bookings and decisions.

  • Florist. A small bouquet for the bride, a buttonhole for the groom. No need for venue florals. Book a fortnight out if you want, but locking in by day 45 leaves room.
  • Hair and makeup. A trial is helpful but not essential for a ROM-only day. Book the day-of MUA now.
  • Rings. If you do not already have them. Sizing and engraving can take three to four weeks.
  • Invitations. A digital invite from a free template is the standard for ROM-only. Send by day 45 for a clean RSVP window.
  • Tea ceremony decisions. If you are keeping a tea ceremony for the families, decide on timing and order now.

Day 45 to 30: the practical fortnight

The detail phase. None of these are hard. All of them need to happen.

  • Day-of timing. Map the day in 15-minute increments. Where the car picks you up, when you arrive at the ceremony, photo timing, lunch start.
  • Speeches. Decide who is speaking and roughly how long. For a small lunch, two or three short speeches is plenty.
  • Music. If you want music at the ceremony or during the lunch, choose it now. A short Spotify playlist on a small speaker is sometimes the whole AV setup.
  • Confirm the witnesses one more time. Send them the address, the time, and what to wear.

Day 30 to 14: the confirmations

Two weeks of confirming what has already been booked.

  • Reconfirm with the venue, photographer, MUA, florist, and wedding car. A short message to each.
  • Final guest count to the lunch venue. Most restaurants want a hard number a fortnight out.
  • Buy the small things. A pair of shoes you will wear once. A handkerchief. The lipstick you want for the day.
  • Print one copy of the day's run sheet. Our piece on building a run sheet covers the format.

Day 14 to 7: the week before

The week of the wedding. Light load by design.

  • Last fitting on the gown or suit. Final alterations.
  • Write a short brief for each vendor. Photographer, MUA, chauffeur. Address, timing, who is in which car, any preferences. Send the night before each respective service starts.
  • Eat well and sleep well. A short timeline gives a calmer week than a long one. Use it.
  • Practice the vows once or twice if you are writing them. Out loud, not in your head.

Day 7 to 1: the final week

Quiet. Almost no decisions left.

  • Pack the morning bag the day before. Rings, ID for ROM, a small snack, water, tissues, a sealed letter to your future self if you have written one. Our piece on the letter exercise is worth the thirty minutes.
  • Tell one person who is not in the wedding what time you would like to be reached and not reached. A small thing that protects the evening.

Day 0: the day itself

For a ROM at 11 am, the morning is gentle. MUA at 8 or 9, dressed by 10:15, car at 10:30, ceremony at 11, lunch at 12:30, home by 4. A long, slow afternoon ahead of you for the first time in three months.

The 4-hour package was made for this

Our shortest package was designed exactly for ROM-only days. Morning pickup, the ceremony, photos, drop-off. Nothing more than you need.

Closing

Ninety days is enough. Sixty is enough. Thirty is enough if you are willing to make calls quickly and let some of the standard line items go unbooked. A ROM-only wedding rewards restraint at the planning stage as much as it does on the day itself. Trust the smaller shape. The day will be as full as you want it to be.
